Shri Anil Ambani Non-Executive Chairman
Regarded as one of the foremost corporate leaders, business magnets, investors and philanthropists of contemporary India, Shri Anil Dhirubhai Ambani, is the Chairman of all listed companies of the Reliance Group. The Reliance Group companies include Reliance Infrastructure, Reliance Communications, Reliance Capital and Reliance Power.
He is also on the board of directors of Reliance Infratel Limited and Reliance Group. He is the President of the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Shri Sateesh Seth Non-Executive Director
Shri S Seth is a Fellow Chartered Accountant and a law graduate. He has vast experience in general management. Shri Seth was appointed to the Board on September 12, 2016, as an Additional Director. He is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Company.
Shri Debashis Bir, Whole-Time Director and Chief Executive officer
Shri Debashis Bir, 63 years, is a Science Graduate and has a bachelor degree in Science (Hons.) from Calcutta University and B.Tech. (Hons.) in Naval Architecture from IIT, Kharagpur. Shri Bir has over 40 years of experience in Ship Design and Construction, Ship Repairs, Design & Development of Shipyard infrastructure, Financial Planning, Bidding and Strategic pricing of Projects, Business Development and Customer Management at Global platform.
Shri Bir has joined the Company as President (Shipbuilding) w.e.f. August 16, 2007 and after developing the Yard's Infrastructure, Utilities and Services, implementation of policies and processes, he took over as the Chief Operating Officer. Thereafter, Shri Bir served as Head - Business Development for 2 years before being brought in again as COO to Reliance Shipyard in July 2015. Prior to that, Shri Debashis Bir has served in number of ship construction companies including, Alcock Ashdown Ltd., Alang Marine and Chowgule Group.
Shri Rajesh Dhingra Non Executive Director
Shri Rajesh Dhingra is at present the Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Defence Limited and Chairman of National Council on Defence and Aerospace at ASSOCHAM. He lead Reliance foray into Aerospace business. Shri Rajesh Dhingra was the Managing Director at Lockheed Martin India Private Limited and was responsible for Business Development.
Shri Rajesh Dhingra had a glorious career with Indian Air Force. He worked as the Chief Spokesperson and Public Relations Officer at Ministry of Defence, Delhi and was responsible for all media campaigns and was single point contact for National and International media. He worked with three successive Air Chiefs during this period.
Shri Dhingra is an alumni of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Uttarakhand.
Shri R. N. Bhardwaj Independent Director
Shri R. N. Bhardwaj, 72 years, holds a master's degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and a diploma in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the Punjabi University, Patiala. He has over 39 years of experience in various sectors such as economics, finance, investment and portfolio management. He was the Managing Director and Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India. Shri R. N. Bhardwaj has also served as a member of the Securities Appellate Tribunal
Lt Gen (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain Independent Director
Lt Gen (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain, age 62 years, participated in Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka during 1988-90 and counter insurgency operations in Punjab in 1990-91. During the 1990s he served with the United Nations in Mozambique, and later, war torn Rwanda. He commanded his unit in the Siachen Glacier. He is one of the rare officers to have commanded a company, battalion, brigade, division and corps, all in the challenging environment of Jammu & Kashmir.
As a Lieutenant General, Hasnain was initially the General Officer Commanding (GOC), XXI Corps, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and was then specially nominated to take over the Srinagar based 15 Corps when turbulence hit Kashmir in a big way. He was instrumental in restoring stability to Kashmir through his innovative ‘Hearts Doctrine’. On June 09, 2012, Lt Gen Hasnain took office as the Military Secretary, at Army Headquarters, New Delhi. On September 07, 2013, Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain was awarded his first civilian honor by the Capital Foundation Society of Delhi. The award was for Military leadership of an exceptional order. The General Officer is one of highest decorated officers of the Indian Army having been decorated eight times.
Ever since his superannuation, General Hasnain has actively pursued intellectual activities. He writes for a large number of media houses, and appears as a strategic affairs commentator on various TV channels. His area of emphasis is J&K, Pakistan and West Asia besides affairs of the Army concerning equipment management, doctrine and training. He holds a B.A. (Honours) degree in History from St Stephen’s College and is a post graduate in International Relations from Kings College, University of London; he also has an M Phil in Defence & Management Studies from University of Indore. In addition he has attended long programs in Strategic Studies at the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) and the Asia Pacific Center for Strategic Studies (APCSS), Hawaii, USA.
General Hasnain is a member of the Eminent Persons Group on Indonesia for consultation by the MEA. He is also on the Experts Committee of the MEA on Afghanistan. He is a President of India's Nominee on the Executive Council of Aligarh Muslim University.
Shri Rahul Sarin Independent Director
Shri Rahul Sarin, age 66 yrs, enriched with a diverse experience of thirty five years as a member of the Indian Administrative Service, he is currently Member of Competition Appellate Tribunal, a statutory body under the Competition Act, 2002.
Equipped with graduate degrees in Science and Law, he joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1974. After undergoing a number of in-service and professional training courses, he also upgraded his qualifications with a Post-Graduate Degree in Development Administration from the University of York, U.K. in 1987.
In his assignments in DoPT, Shri Sarin has coordinated all personnel matters in Govt. of India regarding recruitment, capacity building and training, career development, staff welfare and post-retiral benefits. The assignment of Principal Secretary, Finance enabled Shri Sarin in developing a broader vision and perspective regarding the importance of financial management, accountability and utilization of public funds for reaching the desired policy outcomes. Shri Sarin has also varied international experience. His last assignment has been that of Advisor, Small and Macro Enterprises in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Government of Republic of Namibia Cooperation Programme.
Ms. Comal Ramachandran Gayathri Independent Director
Ms. Comal Ramachandran Gayathri has over 36 years of experience as a senior bureaucrat with Government of India and Government of Andhra Pradesh. Ms. Gayathri has contributed to power and energy, environment, industry, fertilizers and chemicals and social Sectors. Ms. Gayathri has made significant contribution to reforms and restructuring of Power Sector and formulating guidelines in the management of Power and Energy sectors.
Shri K Ravikumar Independent Director
Shri K Ravikumar, 67 years was the former Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), which ranks among the leading companies of the world engaged in the field of power plant equipment. As CMD, he was responsible for maximizing market-share and establishing BHEL as a total solution provider in the power sector. The Company was ranked 9th in terms of market capitalization in India during his tenure at BHEL.
He had handled a variety of assignments during his long career spanning over 36 years. His areas of expertise are design and engineering, construction and project management of thermal, hydro, nuclear, gas based power plants and marketing of power projects. Shri Ravikumar had the unique distinction of having booked USD 25 billion order for BHEL. His vision was to transform BHEL into a world class engineering enterprise. Towards this, he pursued a growth strategy based on the twin plans of building both capacity and capability and this had resulted in an increase in BHEL's manufacturing capacity from 10,000 MW to 20,000 MW per annum.
He also introduced new technologies in the field of coal and gas based power plants for the first time in the country, such as supercritical thermal sets of 660 MW and above rating, advance class gas turbines large size CFBC boilers and large size nuclear sets. BHEL has the distinction of having installed over 1,00,000 MW of power plant equipment worldwide. Shri Ravikumar had also forged a number of strategic tie ups for BHEL with leading Indian utilities and corporates like NTPC Limited, Tamilnadu State Electricity Board, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, Karnataka Power Corporation Limited, Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited to leverage equipment sales and develop alternative sources for equipment needed for the country. He had guided BHEL's technology strategy to maintain the technology edge in the market place with a judicious mix of internal development of technologies with selective external co-operation. He had focused on meeting the customer expectation and has strengthened BHEL's image as a total solution provider.
He possesses M.Tech Degree from the Indian Institute of Technology. Chennai besides Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. He was conferred Alumini Awards from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai and the National Institute of Information Technology, Trichy and was the Ex-Chairman of BOG National Institute of Information Technology, Mizoram. He has published a number of research papers in the field of power and electronics.
Shri Rana Ranjit Rai Independent Director
Shri Rana Ranjit Rai, 67 years, is a graduate in science and law from the University of Delhi. He joined Life Insurance Corporation of India ('Corporation') as a direct recruit officer after a short stint in the Ministry of Works and Housing (now named as the Ministry of Urban Development), New Delhi. Shri Rai served the Corporation in various important positions including Principal, Zonal Training Centre at Gurgaon and Director, Management Development Centre at Mumbai, Executive Director (Corporate Communication & International Operations), Central Office. He retired from the services of the Corporation on August 31, 2010.
During his distinguished career, Shri Rai managed team ranging from 40 to 25,000 personnel comprising of both marketing and administrative staff (excluding agents). In his professional capacity, he closely interacted with people in all walks of life in urban and rural India including elite inter and intra industry leadership. He endeavour to contribute towards developing potential and shaping attitudes of personnel during his tenure at the training institutes and aimed at sustaining harmonious relationship development among all stakeholders of the Industry.
He participated in premier institute programmes at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad and Management Development Institute, Gurgaon. He also attended the Life Insurance Executive Seminar held in Tokyo and Taipei by Nippon Life Insurance and Cathay Life Insurance.

Ms. Ryna Karani, 48 years, is a partner of the ALMT Legal Advocates and Solicitors and part of the firm’s corporate and commercial team. She has been practicing as a lawyer since 1994 and is enrolled as Advocate with the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa. Prior to joining ALMT Legal in November 2006, Ms. Ryna was a partner at another law firm in Mumbai. Her practice includes advising on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity and investment funds on a full range of corporate transactions including cross border transactions. She has advised and assisted a number of foreign clients in establishing a presence in India through incorporations of companies and/or establishment of branch/liaison offices. She is a member of the Society of Women Lawyers and sits on the Boards of several listed and unlisted companies.
